Swimming in the Newlands Project Canals and Laterals Its summer and it is HOT. Swimming in the Newlands Project Canals and Laterals is not only dangerous, it is trespassing. It is tempting to jump in the water for a swim but, there are many hazards lying beneath the surface of the water. There is a stiff undertow, particularly around the diversions and dams. There is not only rough rip-rap, but you may step on broken glass or rusty cans. Please be safe, swim in the public pools, not the irrigation canals. |
