2006/2007
Water Conservation Update
A
total of 176 work orders related to water conservation activities were
active during 2006/2007 with a total cost of $353,694.10.
Attachment #2 shows all these work orders broken out by labor,
labor overhead at 70%, equipment rental, materials and supplies, and
administrative charges at 25% of the subtotal.
The list shows the name of the project and the category of work.
For
the 2006 delivery data, a total of 186,056 acre-feet were delivered to
1,120 takeouts. The water
conservation plan requires 75 percent of that water to be measured, or
139,542 acre-feet, by the year 2012.
The takeouts were ranked by volume of water delivered, and 474
takeouts would be required to measure the 139,542 acre-feet.
So far, 368 takeouts were measured, totaling 105,608 acre-feet.
These 368 takeouts measured 56.8 percent of the total water
delivered. This
accomplishment is ahead of the schedule laid out in the Water
Conservation Plan, which called for 42.7 percent of the water to be
measured by 2006. The amount
currently being measured is also 75.7 percent of the total amount
required to be measured. A
total of 80 measuring devices were used to measure the 368 takeouts.
Work
Accomplished in Year 2006/2007
Eight
ramp flumes were installed in 2006/2007 fiscal year, the E1-C10, L1-10,
A12, A2-C6A, L1-4, A9, V5, and S25. The
average cost of the installations was $10,800.
A
test site on the V7 Lateral is fully equipped as a hydraulics laboratory
that can measure flows up to 25 cfs.
This site allows testing of new meters against a known flow over
a ramp flume. The site is
also equipped with gates to measure jet flow, submerged orifice flow,
and over the boards flow. A
bridge is available for making stream flow measurements.
This site is an excellent teaching testing and training facility.
To our knowledge, there is no other district in the world that
has such a facility.
Work to be
Accomplished in Year 2007/2008
It is expected that this year should
see a big increase in percent of water measured because eight additional
measuring devices have already been installed, five are existing
qualified sites that need to be added to the measurement program, and
five more are planned. The
eight that have been installed are the A9-4-T3, L1-6-T3, L1-7-T14, L4,
T5, T6, S3, and S8. The five
existing sites are RD, TC1, TC4, TC5, and S7.
The five more planned are A4, S5, S6, and the existing S19 and V1
need to be refurbished. In
addition, design data has been collected for the G, G5, T7, L1-2, L5,
L6, R2, and TC13.
No funds were available from the Bureau of Reclamation for new
Priority Three items. The
Bureau of Reclamation provided three
Langeman
Ga
tes which were fabricated for installation on
Segura
Dr
op, Sorensen Check, and A15 Check. These
gates need automation controls before they can be installed.
Once automation is obtained, the gates will be installed.
